How to Care for Your Watch and Strap

A few careful habits help you keep a watch comfortable to wear and in good condition. The exact model's instructions come first: water resistance, movement and strap materials vary.

Clean gently

For routine care, wipe the case and bracelet with a soft, dry cloth. Do not assume that every watch can be immersed or cleaned with detergent. Avoid solvents and aggressive cleaning products. Ask for model-specific guidance before deeper cleaning.

Give the strap its own care

A leather strap needs different treatment from a metal bracelet. Keep leather away from prolonged moisture and intense heat. Water resistance of the watch case does not make a leather strap suitable for swimming. Let damp leather dry naturally, away from heaters.

Treat water resistance as model-specific

A rating is not a permanent guarantee. Seals can age and accidental damage can affect protection. Follow the supplied water-use instructions, keep the crown correctly closed and do not operate controls underwater unless the manufacturer expressly permits it. Do not infer diving suitability from a number alone.

Be careful around heat, magnets and impacts

Avoid leaving the watch in a hot vehicle or next to strong magnetic sources. If its timing changes unexpectedly, stop relying on it for accurate time and arrange an assessment. Protect the crystal and case from impacts.

Store it thoughtfully

Use a clean, dry place where the watch cannot rub against other metal objects. For winding, setting the date and long-term storage, follow the movement's instructions. Do not improvise a service interval: the manufacturer or a qualified watchmaker can advise for that model.
